When 8 The Agency called us for a private event on Mykonos, the brief was deceptively simple: "Make the pool area feel like another planet." No stage, no crowd control, no sound system to sync to — just an infinity pool overlooking the Aegean Sea, sixty guests and a sunset that does half the work for you.
Designing for water
We brought a collection of chrome LED orbs in three sizes, each waterproofed and weighted to float at different heights. Some sat on the water surface, catching the pool lights from below. Others hung from minimal wire structures around the terrace, slowly rotating in the evening breeze. The chrome finish mirrors everything — sky, water, candlelight, the guests themselves. At dusk, the boundary between the real orbs and their reflections dissolved completely.
Logistics of island work
Getting inflatable art to a Greek island in June involves creative problem-solving. We shipped equipment to Athens two weeks early, then ferried it to Mykonos with a day to spare. The wind was our biggest concern — Mykonos lives up to its reputation — but by positioning the hanging orbs in sheltered corners and keeping the floating ones low, everything held through the night.
After dark
The moment the sun dropped below the horizon and the LED programming kicked in, the terrace transformed. Soft cyan and warm white pulses moved across the orbs in slow waves, synced to a custom sequence we'd programmed for the event. Guests stopped mid-conversation. Phones came out. Someone said it looked like the pool was full of small moons. We've been working with 8 The Agency since the Moet & Chandon activation at A'DAM Toren in Amsterdam — and Mykonos proved that what works in a Dutch warehouse works just as well on a Mediterranean cliff.
